Investigation Status Update
Over the past two days Macon has experienced several acts of violence. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators are working diligently to solve these cases. Here is a status update of the incidents.
1) February 21, 2026, just before 12:30 a.m., in the 3300 block of Sharon Drive. A male attempted to break into his estranged wife’s home and was shot. His injury is non-life threatening. Davia Lee Evans Jr. was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property and battery family violence.
2) February 21, 2026, at 6:58 p.m., There was a report of a person shot in the 1500 block of Florence Avenue. Victim Shavis Adams was shot, he was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. This incident is currently under investigation.
3) February 21, 2026, at 7:24 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Atwood Drive. It was reported that a 17-year-old male was shot while walking down the street. He was transported to the hospital by private vehicle and is listed in stable condition. This incident is under investigation.
4) February 21, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. , in the 700 block of Key Street. Three victims , a seven-year-old male , 24-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were injured when someone fired shots into the home. The victims were taken to a local hospital and are listed in stable condition. This incident is still under investigation
5) February 22, 2026, at 1:29 a.m. in the 1200 block of Holt Avenue , Shots were fired into a home striking a 17-year-old male. He was transported to the hospital with non-life threating injuries. He is listed in stable condition.
6) February 22, 2026, at 3:35 a.m. near the intersection of Moseley Ave. and Cedar Ave. Three victims , 25yr-old Charleston Burnett, 25yr-old Jordan Gardner, and 26yr-old Willie Cain were shot at this location and were pronounced deceased on scene. This incident is still under investigation.
7) February 22, 2026, just after 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Bloomfield Drive and Williamson Road. Two females were injured when someone fired shots into their vehicle as they were attempting to pass another vehicle.
😎 February 22, 2026, just before 3:00pm in the 1300 block of Dewey Street. A female victim was struck by gunfire when someone fired shots into vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in stable condition. This incident is still under investigation.
Sheriff David Davis said, ”these incidents have shocked our community. Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Investigators are working relentlessly to bring justice to each victim. Let me be clear — this violence in our community will not be tolerated. We are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them accountable. At the same time, real change requires all of us. I’m asking our citizens to stand together, support the families impacted, and share any information that can help us ensure safety and peace in Macon-Bibb County. We are strongest when we stand together.”
These investigations are ongoing. Additional information will be released on each as soon as it becomes available. At this time neither of these incidents appear to be related.

Third Defendant Admits Guilt Resulting from Investigation into a $3 Million Bank Fraud of a Gray, Georgia, Bank Branch
MACON, Ga. – The manager of a Macon check cashing company pleaded guilty to filing false reports resulting from a larger investigation into a bank fraud conspiracy targeting a Morris Bank branch in Gray, Georgia.
James Kevin Meyers, 57, of Gray, Georgia, pleaded guilty to one count of causing the filing of false currency transaction reports before U.S. District Judge Marc T. Treadwell on Feb. 18. Meyers faces a maximum of ten years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine. A sentencing date will be determined by the Court.
In two related cases, Ronnie Atkinson, 57, of Macon, Georgia, was sentenced to serve a total of 84 months in prison to be followed by five years of supervised release on Feb. 5, after he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft on May 12, 2025. Atkinson was also ordered to pay a total of $3,357,073.21 in restitution.
Alan Childs, 60, of Gray, Georgia, was sentenced to serve twelve months and one day in prison on Sept. 17, 2025, and was ordered to pay $3,094,200.98 in restitution after he pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud on April 12, 2025.
There is no parole in the federal system.

Asking the Public’s Assistance in identifying a suspect in connection with an Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault Investigation
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an armed robbery and aggravated assault. The incident occurred at 11:19 a.m., on February 14, 2026.
Deputies responded to 3198 Mercer University Drive, Sprint Foods in reference to reports of shots being fired inside the business. During the investigation deputies discovered two suspects attempted to take a firearm from a patron inside the store. During the struggle, the eighteen-year-old patron was shot. The suspects fled the scene with the victim’s firearm. The victim was transported to a local medical facility by personal vehicle. According to Medical Staff, he was discharged later that day.
On February 19, 2026, The Criminal Investigation Division Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, Special Investigations Unit and the US Marshalls Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force executed a search warrant on a residence on Swan Drive. Investigators took thirty-three-year-old Joshua Jwen Hill and twenty-two-year-old Cecret Brejaneah Bowens into custody. Both were transported to the Criminal Investigation Division. They were later transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
Cecret Bowens was charged with Misdemeanor Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers and Felony Tampering with Evidence. She was released on bond. Joshua Hill was charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Felony Probation Violation, and Parole Violation. His bond was denied.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a third suspect in connection with the investigation.
