On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 11:15 pm, Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to a call regarding a possible distress situation near the Towaliga River at Mayfield Road. The complainant reported hearing yelling for help in the area.
Upon arrival, Deputies located a white Chevrolet SUV parked on the bridge. The driver, identified as Shannon Naulta, stated he had been floating the river with friends—Ashley Clark and Darren Wallace. Naulta stated that exited the river due to it turning dark outside. He advised Deputies that Clark was in a pink innertube, and Wallace was in a green kayak
Emergency services and the Georgia State Patrol’s aviation unit were contacted. While awaiting the helicopter, Deputies deployed the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office UAV and located a floating object that was consistent with an innertube. At approximately 1:14 am, July 23, 2025, Ashely Clark was safely pulled out of the water.
Deputies attempted to locate the other missing person. Georgia State Patrol’s aviation unit confirmed that no individuals remained in the river. The search was discontinued at that time.
At approximately 7:52 a.m., on July 23, 2025, Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person near the High Falls Mini Mart. Upon their arrival, the individual was confirmed to be Darren Wallace. He was located safe and in good health.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Monroe County Emergency Services and the Georgia State Patrol, for their rapid response, which ensured a safe outcome for all individuals involved. ... See MoreSee Less
