Death Investigation on Key Street

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred within the 800 block of Key Street. The incident was called into the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 Center at 5:53 a.m., Saturday morning.

When deputies arrived, they observed a sixty-two-year-old male unresponsive with a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a medical facility for treatment. According to Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, the victim succumbed to his injury at the medical facility. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time. No other injuries have been reported.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available. UPDATE: Drowning Incident Investigation on Lake Tobesofkee

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Macon Bibb County Fire Department, and members of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, responded to investigate a possible drowning incident at the Michael Dewayne Jones Public Fishing Area on Lake Tobesofkee. The incident occurred on May 23, 2025, at 2:38 p.m., Friday afternoon.

It was reported to deputies that a seven-year-old male, eight-year-old male and ten-year-old male were in the water when they suddenly went under. Deputies and members of the Fire Department entered the water and recovered the eight-year-old male and ten-year-old male. They were transported to a medical facility for treatment. According to medical staff, the eight-year-old is in critical but stable condition. The ten-year-old is in stable condition.

The seven-year-old was located unresponsive. He was removed from the water. He was pronounced deceased on scene by Deputy Coroner Luanne Stone. According to Deputy Coroner Stone, the next of kin has been notified.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.

Prayers for all involved. Family, friends and Responders. I can’t imagine the sadness of this especially with Summer Break beginning today in Bibb County. Parents hug your children tight and love them fiercely. You just never know…🙏🏻😢

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a commercial armed robbery that took place on May 23, 2025, at 12:15 a.m., at Chevron, located at 4987 Bloomfield Road.

It was reported that a masked male subject entered the business and brandished a firearm at the store clerk, demanding merchandise. After receiving merchandise from the clerk, the suspect fled the store on foot towards Williamson Road. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as a male wearing a black hoodie, facemask, black pants, and sneakers. He also wore a camouflage backpack.

The incident is currently under investigation.
