Neighborhood Watch and Macon Regional Crimestoppers visited the students at SOAR Academy Youthbuild on January 12, 2023, during a Violence Prevention class provided by YouthUp, Inc. Executive Director Amanda Smith. Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Judy Gordon spoke with the students, stressing the importance of “If you see something or hear something, say something.” The teens also learned about the mission of the programs and how crime can ALWAYS be reported anonymously. “Crimestoppers serves as a confidential source for the public to share what is known about crime without the fear of retaliation,” said Sgt. Greg Thomas, Executive Director of Macon Regional Crimestoppers. “We have no caller ID and only know the person by a number,” he continued. “If there is a reward generated, the caller picks up his/her check at the bank by that number; the bank doesn’t even know the person’s name.” YouthUp appreciates the dedication of Gordon and Thomas and is delighted to partner with them in educating youth about ways to lower the crime rate in Macon-Bibb County.
