Update: Fatal Single Vehicle Accident Investigation
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident, involving a single vehicle, that took place at around 5:05p.m., near the 3200 block of Mercer University Drive.
Witnesses stated that the east bound traffic on Mercer University Drive had stopped for the traffic light, near its intersection with Anthony Road. A vehicle that was also traveling east on Mercer University Drive did not stop. The driver of a vehicle went off the roadway, through the parking lot of the Advanced Auto Parts Store, crossing over Eveline Avenue, and then struck a tree.
The driver of the vehicle, 71-year-old Albert Caines of Macon was transported to the Navicent by ambulance and was later pronounced deceased. According to the Coroner’s Office, the next of kin has been notified. This accident is under investigation. No one else was injured during this incident.
