Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert will recognize and honor the Macon Regional Crimestoppers 20 years of public safety service with a Proclamation. It will be read and presented to Crimestoppers Chair Warren Selby on Tuesday, December 29 at 10:00 a.m. in Commission Chambers in Government Center (700 Poplar Street). The press conference is only open to invited guests, media, and support staff.
Macon Regional Crimestoppers is a community-run organization serving eight Middle Georgia counties by partnering with the media, sheriff’s offices, police departments, and other law enforcement agencies to increase public safety. They do this by providing people a way to anonymously report tips about crimes that could lead to criminal arrests. Crimestoppers also has a program for middle and high school students to anonymously report illegal activities in their schools.
“For 20 years, we have protected people who wanted to help law enforcement fight crime and make our neighborhoods safer,” says Board Chair Warren Selby. “By giving them this anonymous tip line, we can protect a person’s privacy and safety, and law enforcement has a wider net of information they can pull from to solve crimes.”
Should a tip provided through Crimestoppers lead to an arrest, that person could receive a reward of up to $2,000, which comes from donations from a variety of private businesses, grants, individual donations, and more.
“I’m proud of our community for taking a stand against crime all these years, and to our partners that work together so well to get information to the public, encourage people to call us, and follow up on all tips to make sure justice is served,” adds Selby.
In its 20 years, tips provided to Crimestoppers have led to 11,471 warrants served, 9,551 cases cleared, $785,794 in recovered property, $297,660 in recovered drugs, $973,759 in rewards paid, and 6,036 arrests. To report a tip, call 1-877-68CRIME or visit their website at https://crimestop.us.
