Fatal Collision Investigation

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Fatal Traffic Collision that occurred on January 18, 2022. The incident took place on Riley Avenue at Ridge Avenue.

The collision involved two vehicles, a 2001 Ford Taurus and a 2015 Hyundai Accent. The driver of the Hyundai Accent, 37-year-old Shineka Hughes, was transported to the Atrium Health Navicent by ambulance. On January 19, 2022, Hughes passed away while being treated for the injuries that she received from the collision . According to the Coroner’s Office, the next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was also taken to the hospital and has since been released.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Fatality Investigators are continuing to investigate the collision. Additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
